11+ Group Preparation (Online or In-Person in Cirencester)
Our 11+ group preparation sessions are carefully designed to help children excel in their entrance examinations within a structured, supportive, and motivating learning environment.
We keep our groups small, with a maximum of 6 students, ensuring each child receives personalised attention while benefiting from collaborative learning. Children genuinely enjoy working as part of a group — sharing ideas, building confidence together, and supporting each other.
We provide comprehensive coverage of the core subjects — English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning — ensuring students build strong subject knowledge and confidence.
Beyond subject mastery, we place a strong emphasis on developing essential exam techniques, problem-solving strategies, and effective time management skills. Through guided practice, targeted feedback, and regular assessment, students become fully prepared to approach their exams with accuracy, confidence, and resilience.
11+ Mock Tests (Online or In-Person in Cirencester)
Our 11+ mock tests are designed to closely replicate real exam conditions, helping students build confidence, reduce anxiety, and maximise performance on the day. Each paper mirrors the format and style of the actual 11+ examinations, ensuring students gain authentic practice and familiarity.
The tests provide comprehensive coverage of all key subject areas, including English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning. By practising under timed conditions, students develop effective exam techniques, improve time management skills, and identify areas for further improvement. Detailed feedback is provided after each test, giving clear insights into strengths, areas to develop, and practical guidance on how to improve.
Mindfulness for Learning Focus
We integrate Octagon Mindful Moments — short, practical techniques like Octagon Breathing — to improve focus and calm. Especially helpful for 11+ and GCSE preparation.
Katy Durkin
Katy Durkin, founder and lead educator at Octagon Education, brings over 15 years of experience in teaching, mentoring, and tutoring. With a strong background in both mainstream and private schools across London and beyond, she has worked extensively within the UK education system as well as internationally, Japan and Russia.
Her diverse experience has equipped her with a deep understanding of various educational approaches and student needs. Along with expertise at primary level, Katy is qualified to teach GCSE English Literature and English Language and has supported students in achieving strong academic outcomes across a range of subjects.
In addition to academic teaching, Katy is qualified in children's mindfulness, which she thoughtfully integrates into her educational philosophy to support student well-being, resilience, and focus. She has run mindfulness clubs in schools and, during the pandemic, offered free mindfulness sessions to help children and families manage stress and stay connected during a challenging time.
Katy has a consistently outstanding track record of academic success. Every 11+ student she has supported — both through Octagon Education and in previous collaborations — has received an offer.
