Katy Durkin

Katy Durkin, founder and lead educator at Octagon Education, brings over 15 years of experience in teaching, mentoring, and tutoring. With a strong background in both mainstream and private schools across London and beyond, she has worked extensively within the UK education system as well as internationally, Japan and Russia.

Her diverse experience has equipped her with a deep understanding of various educational approaches and student needs. Along with expertise at primary level, 11+, Katy is qualified to teach GCSE English Language and English Literature and has supported students in achieving strong academic outcomes across a range of subjects.

In addition to academic teaching, Katy is qualified in children's mindfulness, which she thoughtfully integrates into her educational philosophy to support student well-being, resilience, and focus. She has run mindfulness clubs in schools and, during the pandemic, offered free mindfulness sessions to help children and families manage stress and stay connected during a challenging time.

Katy has a consistently outstanding track record of academic success. Every 11+ student she has supported — both through Octagon Education and in previous collaborations — has received an offer.

Her students have secured places at leading schools including Pate's Grammar School, Stroud High School and Sir Thomas Rich's School in Gloucestershire; Eton College in Windsor; and top London schools including St Paul's School, City of London School for Girls, Godolphin and Latymer School. This success reflects her tailored approach and dedication to helping each student reach their full potential.
